Good To Know Before Your Trip To Jordan

During our trip to Jordan, we came up with a few tips that we definitely recommend. In this article, we’ll take a look at them together.

JORDAN | AQABA

VISAS AND JORDAN PASS

In order to enter the country, you need to get a visa. Clearly the best option for obtaining a visa is to purchase the so-called Jordan Pass, which includes not only the visa but also admission to more than 40 sights, including one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Wadi Rum desert or Jerash (Check out our post about what to do in Amman in one day!) Depending on the package you choose, the Jordan Pass costs from 70 JOD. For more information visit Jordan Pass website, where you can also purchase the Jordan Pass.

If for some reason you do not need the Jordan Pass, you can arrange your visa upon arrival at the airport for a fee of 40 JOD.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY INTO THE COUNTRY

Before any trip, not just to Jordan, be sure to check current entry conditions, such as for Covid-19 disease or other restrictions.

Probably the most reliable information can be found on the IATA Travelcentre website, where you can click on a country to see its current entry requirements. We also recommend that you always check the official website of the local government and check the conditions here.

MONEY

If you are bringing cash, ideally bring US dollars (USD). If necessary, exchange only a small amount at the airport for your journey to your destination. Change larger amounts at authorised exchange offices or banks in the cities as they have better exchange rates.

In some tourist areas you can also pay in USD. However, the exchange rate is usually very unfavourable. It is most worthwhile to use the local currency Jordanian Dinar -> 1 JOD = 1.41 USD (January 2024).

JORDAN | DINARS CASH

Cash can be withdrawn at ATMs, which have a fairly dense network. Withdrawals can be made from very small amounts, however it is better to withdraw larger amounts. Some ATMs charge very high withdrawal fees. The best ATM we found in Jordan was from Arab Bank, where a withdrawal costs 4 JOD. You can then withdraw a maximum of 250 JOD with a Revolut card. However, in larger shops and restaurants in the cities you can pay by card, which is the most convenient option.

SIM CARD AND INTERNET

For a mobile internet connection, we recommend purchasing a SIM card from ORANGE. The SIM card itself is free of charge, but when you buy it you must choose the data package you will use it with. The price for 60 GB of data per month is JOD 30. Less data can also be purchased for fewer days. For example, for 20 GB of data you will pay 15 JOD. We recommend that you always purchase your SIM card directly from the operator’s branded shop where you will activate the desired package. Most resorts and hotels also have good quality Wi-Fi, but it depends on the area you are in.

TIPS for arriving to JORDAN

If you are a frequent traveler and withdraw from ATMs while traveling, we recommend getting a Revolut card, which we also use while traveling. This will save you a lot of money. For more info, visit Revolut website.

WATCH OUT after arriving to JORDAN

The exchange offices at the airport have really unfavourable exchange rates. If you don’t urgently need cash right away, leave the money exchange until downtown. At the airport, you can pay pretty much everywhere with a card. Alternatively, you can withdraw cash from the aforementioned ATM.

We hope that our tips will help you! Enjoy your trip!
